Our Glacial Heritage - New England

A day field trip for STEM & Geography Teachers

Pre-service teachers and College Students are welcome on this trip.

THIS TRIP IS NOW FULL!

11 May 2019 - Departs and returns to North Windham, Maine.

Have you ever wondered what tangible evidence you can find for the ice ages in our area?   Have you thought about how you might be able to use that evidence in your classroom?  Have you considered what activities you could use with your students to explain how glacial features form?

Then come and join an enthusiastic group of Earth Science and Geography teachers as we learn how glaciers shaped our landscape, examine evidence and go through some classroom activities.

We will see glacial grooving and polish, kettles, drumlins, and erratic boulders,  We will examine glacial carved lakes and learn how you can teach about these features in your classroom.  There will be hands-on activities that you can easily duplicate and we will provide full field notes.

You will also receive a certificate outlining the professional development hours undertaken by participating in this trip.

You will see:

  • Glacial lake
  • Glacial striations and polish
  • Drumlins
  • Kettles
  • Glacial erratics

You will see demonstrations in the field that you can duplicate in your classroom, as well as full field notes and more.

Morning tea and lunch are all provided.
