Join an enthusiastic group and discover the wonders of the active volcanoes on the Big Island of Hawaii while we hunt for geocaches.

The Big Island of Hawaii has remarkable landscapes – from tropical rainforests to deserts, to palm-lined coastlines, to barren lava fields to snow-capped mountains.  What better place to hunt for caches – traditional and earthcaches!    We will spend time caching on all the active volcanoes (there are three of them) as well as seeing some amazing sites, including green sand and black sand beaches, lava tubes, lava fields, coral reefs, and more.

We stay in lodge accommodation (shared rooms and facilities), and travel is modern air-conditioned vehicles.

Potential Caches

Traditional: 55

EarthCaches: 15

Other: 2

You will also

  • Learn a little about Plate Tectonics
  • See evidence of current volcanic activity
  • Walk on young lava flows
  • Walk on green and black sand beaches.
  • Spend time with other cachers and enjoy each other’s company.

Past Participants say….

I 100% recommend joining Gary on this trip. I went a year ago and had a great time. Looking forward to seeing somewhere else in the world with him again some time in the future. – Clara

You won’t be disappointed. This is a GREAT trip – Jim

We had a great time last October. There’s nothing like caching in a group, having fun with other like minded people, learning about geology and seeing some amazing things in a foreign country. We visited some other islands afterwards and the whole thing was an amazing experience. Highly recommend it.  – Geoff

Oh what a time I had! My first visit to Hawaii overall, it was my present to myself for my 40th b-day and I don’t think I could’ve asked for a better introduction!! There was just the right kind of balance between caching and seeing the sites, and if you hung around and chatted with Gary, he’s also a pretty hilarious guy to talk to. Plus, the Big Island is surreal. I tell everyone that when I went it felt like stepping onto the set of about 6 different Star Trek episodes. 14.349 stars out of 10!!! – Nicole

If you want to see the world in a completely different light and find the odd cache. you would be doing yourself a disservice by not going on one of his trips- highly recommended wherever you go with GEOetc – Dave
