This is an activity where students listen to a 10-minute podcast on Banded Iron Formations (BIF) and why they are important for resources and understanding the evolution of the Earth’s oxygen (Podcast is here) and then use what they learn to plot chemistry across some bands and calculate the age of cycles.

This involves students using data manually and creating their own plot.

The activity can be downloaded and shown to your students and they can type responses into a separate document or print and write evidence down on the activity sheets.  You can download the activity below.

Full answers and a downloadable spreadsheet of the data are provided in the Teachers Guide which is available for members.

GEOetc has a Members Resources section that for a small cost gives you access to all the resources for FREE.  New resources are added every month.  Becoming a member costs you less than one coffee/water/tea a month – and supports us to continue developing resources to help you teach Earth science.
