A trip special trip for homeschool families to discover the history, Earth science and culture of Eastern Australia – including Sydney, NSW South Coast and the National Capital.
1-8 November 2027
Visit the amazing and varied geology and landscapes of Eastern Australia on this 7-day trip to the land ‘downunder’. Spend a day in Sydney – the Harbour Bridge, The Opera House, Bondi Beach and time on the harbour. Then head down the east coast to see coal outcropping on a beach, a blowhole, old lava flows and loads of Australian wildlife. See ancient life in fossils older than the dinosaurs. Then pop up to the Australian Capital (Canberra) to experience the seat of goverment – Parliament House, War Memorial and more.
We will examine the landscape, the ecology, and the history as well as discovering the current culture of Australia

There is no better way to start off an Australia adventure than to come with an Aussie as he guides you around this part of the country. Then use this trip to add on extras – maybe a trip to the Great Barrier Reef or out to the red center to see Uluru (Ayers Rock)? (We are working with a travel agent friend to get some great add-on trips)
TRIP PLAN *
Day 1 – Arrive and meet at a point near the Airport.
We will for orientation and meeting with the leaders. We will travel to see where Europians fiorst landed in Australia and start discussions about how the country changed for the indigenous first nation people.
Day 2 – Sydney exploring
We will catch a train into the heart of Sydney to spend a day exploring icons like the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. We will catch a ferry up the harbour to Watsons Bay and visit the Gap. We will then catch a bus to famous Bondi Beach.
Day 3 – Sydney Basin and the South Coast
Drive south through the Royal National Park to Stanwell Park. Explore the escarpments, see engineering for landslide hazards, and see coal outcropping on the beach. Travel to Bombo/Kiama to see amazing lava flows and blowholes. Then continue down to the far south coast. Overnight in the Batemans Bay area.
Day 4 –Explore Murramarang National Park
We will sepnd a day exploring the rugged coastline and see loads of amazing wildlife. We will stay on a bay that Charles Darwins ship the Beagle once anchored. There will be time here to ʻchillʻ and relax.
Day 5 – Drive to Canberra
Canberra – Australia’s capital. Tour of the city, parliament house, and amazing geology of the area. See faults, and fossils and smell a mineral deposit. Overnight in Canberra.
Day 6 – Explore Canberra and environs
Explore wildlife at Tiddbinbilla and a picnic lunch with the animals.
Day 7 – Drive inland back to Sydney
Drive inland back to Sydney, stopping at old jails and convict buildings. Overnight in Sydney – ready to fly out for home or a new adventure.

Cost: Arround $US 2,700 per person
(Includes all Australian transportation, accommodation, most breakfasts, two dinners, entrances, tours, and guides. Does NOT include airfares to/from Sydney, Australia. Shared rooms. For larger family, you may be split into two rooms in some locations.)
The trip deposit is US$500 per family member.
Your deposit is fully refundable, minus a US$50 administration fee ,up until 90 days after you register – called your Deposit Refund Date – or 1 March 2027, which ever comes first. After this date you forfeit your deposit.
Full payment is due before March 31, 2027. There are no refunds after this date. It strongly recommended that you will take out travel insurance to cover cancellations due to your health or other circumstances.
