We are all looking at ways to collect and display data with our students.  Most of the time the data we want to display is short term data – such as a one-lab experiment or maybe data over a weekend.  However in Earth and space science data may need to be collected and displayed over much longer time periods – often over an entire year or more.  Climate change data, for example, needs to be collected over decades or longer.

For many of us we want students to observe and record data for things such as weather, tides, moon phases.  Whether the students are collecting and/or recording the data from their own observations or downloading data from reliable websites (NOAA, USGS etc) having a good way to display the long term data (a years worth) in one place can be awkward.  This is where these neat circular data calendars can be perfect.

These are very simple to use.  They have project and scientist (student) information recorded on the top.  A key (such as a color scale) can be developed and displayed on the right-hand side.  Then those colors then used in the day squares for each month.   As the day squares are not numbered, students will need to work out the first day and work from there.  Data could also be recorded directly in the squares.
